Chris's career story

My name is Chris Ariyo, currently Senior Systems Specialist in the Data Services for Research unit. I obtained my Licentiate in Technology from the Laboratory of Metallurgy in Aalto University (Helsinki University of Technology).

When I joined CSC in 1999, I had about 60 colleagues. We have grown tremendously in the past few years and are now more than 400 employees! Nowadays it’s quite common to see new faces that I haven’t seen before in the corridors and asking questions about them, notwithstanding they might have been working in CSC for a year or two, sometimes even more.

Great people form great teams and thus achieve great things.

I can still remember my first project in CSC, it was very exciting. When I started the backup and archiving systems were in the same room in the basement including all the tapes that were used. We decided to find a lasting storage space for the full tapes. The project involved researching possible alternatives and reasonable pricing. I ended coming up with one of the best tape safes in the industry. The safe is still in use today.

I have had an incredible opportunity to participate in different ground-breaking projects in the procurement and development of services in CSC. The first beowolf cluster in CSC (called Terttu), the provision of library systems maintenance services to the Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences including the library of parliament, as well as numerous supercomputing and storage procurement projects just to mention a few.

I have never worked with more motivated experts and professionals and owe my success to the people around me and to my boss. Without the great cooperation and dedication of all the project members, it would have been impossible. Great people form great teams and thus achieve great things. This is one of the major things that I like about our company and will continue to work here.

My major motivation at work is in helping our customers to realize their full potential. It is very rewarding to see the successes of Finland’s research community due to the work we have done at CSC. We are like a tight nit family with members working together to provide best technologies for the betterment of research and development in Finland. I have been very privileged to be a part of this CSC family and also been able to be in the fore front of the technological developments.
