What we are doing:

INAR Ecosystems is a national collaboration of terrestrial ecosystem and biodiversity research organizations and data management centres. It is complementing the Finnish Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR) in improving the research infrastructures for in forests, peatlands, agricultural fields and urban areas. The activities of INAR Ecosystems include upgrading research infrastructures at various ecosystem observation stations and experimental stations and laboratories, coordination of their national activities and creation of deeper co-within ecosystem research in Finland.

Important part of the project is the development of national practices for ecosystem data management as well as the connection to European and global thematic data infrastructures. CSC is providing expertise on data management, and as part of the work organizes INAR Ecosystems data workshops. The European counterparts of the project include European research infrastructures eLTER (European Long-term Ecosystem Research) and AnaEE (Infrastructure for Analysis and Experimentation on Ecosystems). Through INAR Ecosystems work Finland develops capabilities towards active participation in the European infrastructures.
