Statement on Finnish space activity and needs for space administration

  • Space technology has developed drastically in recent years, and costs of space exploration have come down. Due to this change new opportunities have emerged alongside the traditional space industry. Both society and private enterprises benefit from these developments.
  • Finnish space activity is estimated to grow substantially in the future. However, the Finnish space administration in its current state is too scattered and it does not serve the needs of the sector.
  • CSC supports the concentration of the space administration, which was one of the three options presented in the draft report of the Ministry of Transport and Communication.
  • Centralized space administration has many advantages. It enables efficient management and coordination of the Finnish space sector and makes it possible to react quickly to changes in the industry. In addition, it brings better support for space business, development projects and training, greater visibility and influence in the international arena, and brings public services of the field together.
