E-TASC Hel: like taking part in an apocalyptic sci-fi movie

EuroFusion E-Tasc Hel is an EU-funded project to improve and unify numerical tools for supporting the construction of fusion reactors. We have to model the dynamics of ITER and DEMO to the best of our ability in order to give the reactors the best possible chance of being functional. When I indicate that a lot of mankinds future depend on projects like this, I am not exaggerating that much.

To all young climate activists claiming we leave it all to them – Sorry, I beg to differ

Young climate activist – your task may well be to protest and demand changes and actions, but to claim that we in the older generations are not really contributing and that we leave the entire burden on you - Sorry, I beg to differ.

Suurtehokvanttilaskenta – lähentymistä luvassa

Kvanttilaskenta on tulevaisuuden HPC-ekosysteemien kulmakivi. LUMI-supertietokone yhdistää HPC-asiantuntemusta poikkeuksellisella tavalla, joten on korkea aika tehdä sama myös eurooppalaisen kvanttiosaamisen alalla.

Combined machine learning framework for supercomputing. Blog post 2/3

What would a combined machine learning framework look like and which primary components it requires? From the technical point-of-view, it makes most sense to have the interactive part running on Kubernetes, while the batch jobs would run in the HPC cluster.

Modern machine learning with supercomputers. Blog post 1/3

What does it take to provide the most powerful AI system possible? For us working in supercomputing centres around the world, “most powerful” is where we are aiming at all the time. After all, pushing the limits of computing is what we are paid to do.

Ohjelmistoversion kuolema

Sovelluskehittäjänä käytän paljon muiden luomia pieniä kirjasto-ohjelmia. Niille yleensä ei ole määritelty EOLaa (End Of Life) kuten tärkeämmille ohjelmistoille.

Collaboration first: The CSC open source policy

The CSC policy for free and open source software is published. It pretty much stated the already established approach to endorsing open source software in our daily work. The paths of CSC and open source have crossed from the very beginning, when we were in the happy position to offer the platform for distributing the very first version of the Linux operating system – and were of course early adopters of Linux in our operations.
