Case University of Jyväskylä: Research in gold nanoparticles relies on PRACE computing resources

Professor Hannu Häkkinen and his research group studies the structure and properties of gold and silver nanoparticles and their uses in chemistry. The research helps scientists develop vaccines against the viruses.

Häkkinen's group have utilised the computing resources provided by CSC and the PRACE network (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) for a long while.

 

Hannu Häkkinen, Professor, University of Jyväskylä:

"We rely on one of Europe's biggest computer centres for running large-scale simulations. Using computing time granted to us by PRACE, we run simulations to study how gold nanoparticles bind to the virus surface. This requires major computing capacity that we could not find anywhere else."
"The computing services offered by CSC are invaluable for me and my research group. Without them, this type of research would be impossible. These resources helps us stay ahead of tough international competition."

CSC coordinates PRACE's training offer and serves as a PRACE Advanced Training Center. The training focuses on efficient use of high-performance computing resources.
