Mitä yhteistä on insinööreillä ja käsikirurgeilla? No ainakin se, että molemmilla on mahdollisuus käyttää työssään matemaattista mallintamista. Insinööreille se on ollut arkipäivää vuosikymmeniä, mutta kasvuyritys Disior tekee kliinisen lääketieteen alalla mallintamisen pioneerityötä CSC:n Elmerin avustamana. Kun CSC päätti sijoittaa kansalliset supertietokoneet Kajaaniin, oli alusta asti selvää, että tavoitteena on rakentaa maailman vihrein ja modernein konesaliympäristö. Jakso 3: Data, sinä olet tähti
Kun Aalto-yliopiston Metsähovin radio-observatorion johtaja Joni Tammi kollegoineen ryhtyy hommiin, syntyy tähtitieteellinen määrä kohinaa, suhinaa ja välähdyksiä. Radio-observatorio kerää avaruudesta dataa mm. auringonpurkauksista ja mustista aukoista. Oikein käsitelty data auttaa maailman tähtitieteilijöiden lisäksi myös muiden tieteenalojen toimijoita nyt ja tulevaisuudessa. Pitkien aikasarjojen kerääminen ja säilyttäminen vaatii datan huolellisen käsittelyn lisäksi hyvää suunnittelua. Jakso 2: Lifeplan – maapallon luontokadon pysäyttämiseksi
Arviolta 80 % kaikista maapallon eliölajeista odottaa löytämistä. Lajeja on niin paljon, ettei niitä ehditä löytämään perinteisin menetelmin ja suuri osa ehtisi jopa hävitä. Tässä teknologia ja CSC tulee avuksi. Lifeplan-hanke mittaa luonnon monimuotoisuuden muutosta automatisoidun tiedonkeruun, koneoppimismenetelmien ja mallintamisen avulla. Case Disior: code optimization support from CSC
Disior Ltd. is a Finnish start-up software company which develops computational software for treating bone fractures. Disior was one of the companies that was granted resources in the European high-performance computing infrastructure PRACE (the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) in its call for applications under the SHAPE program (SME HPC Adoption Programme for Europe) in autumn 2017.
