CSC as a PRACE Training Center

CSC has been one of the 14 PRACE Training Centres since 2012. It provided frequent world-class training events in high-performance computing. Since the beginning first as PRACE Advanced Training Center (PATC), and later as brands were united as PTC, CSC has given over 350 training days and trained over 2500 participants from academia via PRACE Training Centre activity.

PRACE Trainings

PRACE has offered a wide range of pan-European training activities to develop skills and competences related to HPC and computational science.

Face-to-face Training Events

PRACE PTC training events as such have now finished, as the PRACE project finished in the end of 2022. PRACE PTC courses mainly focused on general HPC skills and competences aimed at intermediate to advanced users of HPC. Some introductory courses were still included in its training programme.

PRACE organised  almost 1000 courses via its 14 PRACE Training Centres (in Austria, Belgium, Czech Rep., Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, UK, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden) in its duration. They complemented by Seasonal Schools and special On-demand events run in collaboration with other projects and European Centers of Excellence (CoEs).

Every year, PRACE also collaborated with partners from Canada (the SciNet Consortium), Japan (RIKEN R-CCS) and the U.S. (XSEDE) to organise the International HPC Summer School for the world’s brightest talents in HPC along with world-leading computational scientists and HPC instructors.

Online/Remote Learning

PRACE has developed online training resources that are accessible globally. These resources include:

The Summer of HPC programme

Since 2013, the Summer of HPC programme was aimed at stimulating interest in HPC among students by providing an initial 1-week training course followed by working in a European HPC centre abroad for approx. 2 months in the summer (July – August).
