CSC statement on the proposal for a revised national Archives Act

CSC supports the advancement of digital archiving and sees the proposal for a revised national Archives Act as important. In order to offer the Digital Preservation Service to a wider audience as per the draft act, it is important to make use of synergies which rise from the cooperation between the service provider and the organisations wanting to make use of these services. These benefits include, for example, an understanding of digital information management and quality issues to keep the information authentic and usable. CSC also highlights that the terms used in the draft act should be defined consistently and in line with the description of the Digital Preservation Service. CSC also emphasizes that sufficient information security as well as digital preservation support activities, such as training and personnel resources, need to be taken into consideration when assessing the total cost of providing the service.
