The Fortran programming language is still - despite of its long history - one of the standard and most useful languages in scientific computing. This first course in Fortran 95/2003 programming will give the participants basic knowledge on the Fortran 95 programming language (with glimpses on the later revisions of the Fortran standard) and its most useful constructs. Both days include lectures and practical hands-on exercises.

Learning outcome

At the end of the course, the attendees will be able to write small Fortran programs and understand legacy (and newer) software written in Fortran.

Prerequisites

Using Unix/Linux as well as knowledge of how to use text editors like emacs or vi. Some prior knowledge in computer programming (C/C++, Java, Matlab, Python...) will be useful, but not completely necessary.
