The aim of this course is to introduce Lidar data analysis tools available in CSC Taito supercluster. The main tools covered in the course are: PDAL and different R packages, inc lidR and rlas. The objective is to get a general overview of tasks that can be done using these tools: filtering points, calculating digital elevation and surface models, calculating canopy height, tree detection, mesh creation, change detection.
The course exercises are done in Taito. For exercises, we will use aerial LiDAR scanning datasets from Finnish National Land Survey.
Prerequisites:
- Basic understanding of LiDAR data.
- Basic programing skills (preferably R or Python).
- Previous experience with Taito environment is not required.
