Further Development of Kajaani Data Center Ecosystem

The KDC2 project supports the transition of the Kajaani Data Center ecosystem into its next phase, focusing on regional growth. The project ensures the successful establishment and expansion of new data centers in Kajaani and that operators from Kainuu can develop their own operations and offerings to serve the data center ecosystem. The aim is to maximize the opportunities and benefits offered by the ecosystem for the region and local actors, as well as for the Finnish industry more broadly. 

Main activities within the KDC2 project include:

• Developing training and education programs together with education institutions as well as supporting recruitment to meet the needs of the ecosystem.
• Supporting the expansion of Kajaani’s data center ecosystem with new operators and services.
• Developing the ecosystem with the help of Kainuu’s RDI activities and the new business opportunities they offer.
• Improving the visiting practices of the LUMI supercomputer’s data center.

In addition, the project is involved in promoting the area, networking and collaborating with key stakeholders related to the data center industry.

The project ensures that the promisingly established Kajaani Data Center ecosystem continues to develop and grow, providing necessary support for new operators setting up in the region. At the same time, the project strengthens the local business landscape and RDI activities by expanding their opportunities for collaboration with new data center operators. The project will increase Kajaani’s international visibility as a key location for data centers, HPC, and AI operations.
