GANANA
Europe-India Partnership for Scientific High-Performance Computing
The GANANA project fosters collaboration between Europe and India in high-performance computing (HPC), aiming to advance computational research. By bringing together leading European HPC Centers of Excellence and Indian institutions, the project strengthens scientific partnerships and enhances computational capabilities in both regions.
At the core of GANANA are joint scientific projects focused on three key domains: life sciences, geophysical hazards, and weather and climate modeling. These projects aim to optimise and extend leading HPC applications, improving their scalability, usability, and integration on both European and Indian supercomputing architectures.
GANANA enables the co-development of HPC applications and shared access to supercomputing resources. This collaboration drives innovation in critical areas such as genomics, disaster preparedness, and climate prediction, where advanced computing plays a crucial role in solving global challenges. GANANA also prioritises expertise exchange and capacity building, facilitating long-term visits, researcher mobility programs, and high-level symposia. These activities foster deeper collaboration between institutions, strengthening the global HPC community. The project will also explore governance and funding models, contributing towards a sustainable roadmap for EU-India cooperation in HPC.
CSC plays a key role in GANANA by leading efforts in expertise exchange and resource sharing, supporting reciprocal access to HPC infrastructure, and collaborating on weather and climate modeling applications. Furthermore, CSC supports the advancement of computational life sciences applications and contributes to the development of a sustainable HPC collaboration roadmap between Europe and India.
