The International Computation and AI Network

The International Computation and AI Network (ICAIN) is a global initiative dedicated to advancing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals by AI. By harnessing the expertise of leading scientists and the capabilities of premier supercomputing centers, ICAIN aims to democratize AI technology, ensuring its benefits are accessible worldwide. ICAIN emphasizes equity, sustainability, and safety in AI development, promoting inclusive research and education while proactively addressing potential risks.

ICAIN strives to rebalance the global AI landscape, fostering technological advancements that benefit all of humanity. ICAIN started its operations in 2024 with pilot projects that include enhancing weather prediction for sustainable agriculture in Africa, developing smartphone-based tools for early plant disease detection, and creating ethical AI models for humanitarian efforts. ICAIN plans to be a fully operational network by early 2025.

CSC is a founding member of ICAIN along with the Swiss FDFA, ETH Zurich, CSCS, EPFL, ELLIS, and Data Science Africa.
