OPF
The Open Preservation Foundation
The Open Preservation Foundation (OPF) is a global not-for-profit membership organization that aims to advance common standards and solutions for digital preservation. OPF provides tools for digital preservation, which, for example, CSC uses in its service production. Established in 2010, the OPF collaborates with its members to develop and maintain sustainable, open-source digital preservation tools and resources.
Key tools in the OPF's suite include:
- JHOVE – A tool for format identification, validation, and characterization
- veraPDF – An industry-supported validator for PDF/A and PDF/UA standards
- jpylyzer – A validator and feature extractor for JP2 images
- fido – A command-line tool for file format identification
By joining the OPF, members gain access to a global network of digital preservation practitioners, influence over the development of preservation tools, and opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration. OPF is committed to ensuring that digital materials remain accessible and usable over time.
