RDA
Research Data Alliance
The Research Data Alliance (RDA) is a global bottom-up initiative building the technical and social bridges for data sharing and exchange, to address grand challenges and accelerate data driven innovation worldwide.
RDA responds to the above needs through gathering participants from different countries and profiles and tackling a wide range of data challenges through its voluntary focused Working Groups and exploratory Interest Groups. RDA gathers individuals, organizations and policy makers representing multiple industries and disciplines to jointly create best practices and tools for data movement across borders, sectors and disciplines.
CSC has lead the first phase of the RDA Europe initiatives and was a key contributor in the follow-up 4 RDA Europe projects. The first RDA Europe project director, Dr. Leif Laaksonen, also a CSC Director at the time, was part of the founding group to drive the launch of the RDA in Gothenburg in March 2013. CSC has also coordinated the Finnish RDA National Node activities, raising awareness of the global RDA work and the recommendations and outputs and was a co-organiser of the RDA 14th Plenary held in Helsinki (October 2019).
Within the RDA context CSC leverages the grass-roots work of the various groups developing solutions for international open science, infrastructure and data sharing efforts like EOSC while channeling developments also at national level through fora like the EOSC Finnish Forum.
