ELIXIR Finland FIRI 2022-26
ELIXIR, the European life-science infrastructure for biological information, is an intergovernmental organisation that consolidates Europe’s life science scientists, services, and core bioinformatics resources into a single, coordinated infrastructure. As part of the European Strategic Research Infrastructure (ESFRI), ELIXIR holds global significance and is a part of the Finnish research infrastructure roadmap (FIRI) for biomedical science. ELIXIR Finland is hosted by CSC – IT Center for Science Ltd.
This FIRI upgrade project for the ELIXIR Finland Node increases capabilities of the CSC to support research data management in health and life sciences. A key focus is addressing sensitive data management requirements and solutions identified for data from genomes, bioimages, national registries, and other data collated from human subjects and consented for research.
The project is structured into Four Pillars covering artificial intelligence algorithms, computing, research use of Finnish health data and data access technology that help resolve challenges in sensitive life science data services provided by CSC. Close collaboration is made between the Finnish Biobank Cooperative FINBB, the National Institute for Health and Welfare THL, Euro-Bioimaging in Finland and University of Helsinki – FIMM technology center in three use cases to demonstrate the impact of the upgrade.
