Finding experts will soon be easier – information on researchers to be made available in the National Research Information Hub
In 2022, a service providing quick access to information on researchers will be added to the Research.fi portal maintained by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Details of the researchers working in Finland will be made available in a single service, making it easier to find experts in different fields and ensuring that more people can take part in in societal decision-making and in the debate on their own areas in the media.
Researchers can create a public profile in Research.fi, in which they can enter information from the ORCID service, their home organizations and Research.fi. Contact information, education, affiliations, publications, research data, projects and other research activities (such as expert tasks and awards) are some of the information that researchers can include in their profiles. This ensures that the skills of the researchers and their contact details are up to date and easily accessible to decision-makers, research funders, research organizations, the media and companies looking for experts. The parties to which the information may be disclosed is at the researcher’s discretion.
The new service will be launched during 2022 as part of the National Research Information Hub but its introduction depends on the entry into force of the act on the National Research Information Hub (in Finnish). Read more about the new service (in Finnish).
The new tool containing information on researchers and provided as part of Research.fi is now available for testing
The first test version of the tool is now ready for use. It will be accessible until September 30, 2021 and you can send feedback on the tool. You can login to the test version using your ORCID iD and the data will only be stored in a test database, which will be deleted after the test phase. The feedback will be considered in the development of the service. The errors and malfunctions reported by users will be corrected in the first released version, and other proposals for improvements will also be incorporated where possible.

Information on Finnish research in a single service
Research.fi gives you single-source access to information on research in Finland. The service is useful for researchers, the media, companies, research organizations, research funders, decisions-makers and citizens interested in research. It contains information on the Finnish research system, publications of Finnish organizations, projects funded by public and private parties, statistical data on research personnel and funding as well as bibliometric information on publishing activities.
Research fi is provided under the auspices of the National Research Information Hub project (in Finnish), which brings together information maintained by such parties as universities, universities of applied sciences, research institutes and research funders in their own services. The National Research Information Hub contains information describing research. In addition to making the information more easily accessible, the purpose of the National Research Information Hub is also to ensure a better flow of research information between organizations, make the information easier to use and to reduce administrative work.
The National Research Information Hub also provides a unique knowledge base to support science policy decision-making. It is easier to assess the impact of research and to make decisions on the steering of research.
The Ministry of Education and Culture has commissioned CSC – IT Center for Science to provide the Research.fi service, and CSC is carrying out the work in cooperation with higher education institutions, research institutes and other research organizations as well as research funders.
