The DS4Skills project is advancing an interoperable European Skills Data Space while preserving privacy, security, safety, and ethical standards. The project will test the data space with eight practical use cases, solving challenges related to lifelong learning, employee retention, upskilling, and reskilling. The project aims to showcase the value of the data space: enhancing digital skills and supporting Europe’s digital transformation.

CSC is leading one of the use cases, which focuses on matching skills profiles with learning opportunities and providers of higher education. The goal is to help individuals find the right education and training options based on their skills and career needs.

The project provides us with valuable insight into European Data Spaces for Skills and their potential benefits for Finnish education and international interoperability in education and research.

Jukka Kohtanen, CSC

“CSC has a strong track record in EU-funded research and infrastructure projects, while education-related projects have been smaller parts of our portfolio. With DS4Skills, we aim to expand our role in EU-funded education projects and enable our Finnish customers in a broader European-level collaboration. The project also provides us with valuable insight into European Data Spaces for Skills and their potential benefits for Finnish education and international interoperability in education and research,” says Jukka Kohtanen, Director for Collaborative Digital Services at CSC.

CSC’s role in the project is to enable Finnish higher education institutions to test and implement a data space in Finland. The goal is to match individual skill needs with learning opportunities and providers of higher education. Furthermore, CSC contributes to developing a sustainable business model, provides insight for a user helpdesk, as well as engages various stakeholders and fosters knowledge sharing through webinars, meetings, and workshops. CSC will also share the projects outputs and advance their wider adoption across Finland.

Headshot.

What are Common European Data Spaces?

Data spaces are a central pillar of the EU’s data strategy, enabling the free movement and utilization of data in Europe while adhering to EU rules and values. Organizations can share and utilize data while maintaining control over their own information.
