EOSC Finnish National Node

In March 2025, the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) began the build-up phase of its Federation, aiming to create a unified system for researchers across Europe to share, process, and reuse FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) research outputs. This initiative is grounded in open science principles, promoting transparency, collaboration, and accessibility in scientific research. Thirteen candidate nodes will be developed to work alongside the EOSC EU Node. Each node will serve as an access point to data and services, offering national and third-party tools for data storage, access, and analysis.

Finland is one of the countries developing a national node, joining France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, and Slovakia. Coordinated by CSC, the Finnish National Node will serve as a gateway for both Finnish and international researchers to access Finnish research services. It will integrate national platforms like Fairdata.fi and Research.fi, as well as thematic services such as FIRI and CLARIN. The node will also include the Research Data Management Competence Center to support training and skill development.

The Finnish pilot will focus on building the technical architecture and user interface, developing authentication tools (AAI), integrating metadata and service catalogues, and testing interoperability with other nodes. An AVOTT working group will help onboard services from other Finnish stakeholders.

The Finnish National Node pilot will enhance the visibility of Finnish research, support international collaboration, and serve as a central hub for accessing both national and European research resources.
