Nordic Data Center Week presents the data center industry in Kajaani 22-26 September 2025
Nordic Data Center Week aims to introduce the data center industry to the wider public across the Nordics. CSC, as part of the Kajaani Data Center Ecosystem, is actively involved in the week’s program. In Kajaani, a range of events will be organized offering opportunities to learn about the data center industry, organizations, the LUMI supercomputer, as well as education and career opportunities in the field.
Discover Data Centers – Open Day in Kajaani, 22 September, 11:00–15:00
The Open Day on Monday 22 September will showcase the operations, organizations and future prospects of the data center industry. The event features CSC – IT Center for Science, Kajaani University of Applied Sciences, Kainuu Vocational College, and the City of Kajaani, all presenting their activities at stands and through short presentations. Visitors will also have the chance to see a scale model of the LUMI supercomputer.
Program includes:
• Explore the exhibition stands of participating organizations, 11:00–15:00
• Short presentations on the hour at 11:00, 12:00 and 14:00 (the 12:00 presentation in English)
• Coloring images and the opportunity for children to draw their own supercomputer
• LUMI scale model and a data center-themed quiz
The event is organized at Business Konttori (Kauppakatu 26, Kajaani), and the entry is free.
“Together with other actors in the Kajaani Data Center Ecosystem, we want to create a low-threshold event. Anyone interested is welcome to listen and ask questions about the data center industry as well as CSC’s data center operations in Kajaani. While exploring the scale model of the LUMI supercomputer, there’s also a good opportunity to discuss, for example, potential job opportunities in our data center or other career paths at CSC,” says Eeva Sokka, Manager of CSC’s Kajaani Data Center Ecosystem.
Secondary school visit to CSC’s data center and the LUMI Supercomputer, 23 September
On Tuesday 23 September, math classes from Kajaani Lyseo secondary school will visit CSC’s data center in Renforsin Ranta business park and explore the LUMI supercomputer. During the visit, students will also learn about study paths and career opportunities in the data center industry. The event is organized by CSC, Kainuu Vocational College, Kajaani University of Applied Sciences, and Borealis Data Center. The event is arranged specifically for the school and is not open to the public.
“The aim is to introduce secondary school students to the data center industry, provide an opportunity to meet our experts, and share information about study programs in Kajaani that support the sector. We hope the industry will attract enthusiastic new professionals in the future, and school visits support this long-term goal,” says Eeva Sokka from CSC.
Webinars and podcasts
During Nordic Data Center Week, Kajaani University of Applied Sciences will launch a webinar series that sheds light on how data center waste heat can be turned into new opportunities. In addition, a podcast series will be released during the week, featuring experts who share their perspectives on the future potential of the industry.
Risto Hämäläinen, Development Director of the City of Kajaani, encourages everyone to take part in the events during the week: “The data center industry has grown rapidly in Kajaani. It’s important to make the industry more familiar to the wider public. Nordic Data Center Week provides a great opportunity for that.”
