Discover data centers event in Kajaani on 24 September
Thursday 24 September, 9:00-15:00 at Kajaani Main Library
The Discover data centers public event offers an opportunity to learn about the data center sector, the organizations operating in Kajaani, and education and career opportunities in the field.
The event is free of charge and open to everyone interested in the topic. Throughout the day, visitors can attend short and accessible talks on data centers, their role in society, and education and career opportunities in the sector in Kajaani. Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet experts and learn more about the organizations that make up Kajaani’s data center ecosystem.
The talks will take place at 11:00 (in Finnish), 12:00 (in English) and 14:00 (in Finnish).
CSC will participate with its own exhibition stand and presentations introducing our activities, the supercomputers located in Kajaani, their importance for scientific research and industrial R&D, and career opportunities at CSC. Visitors can also explore the LUMI supercomputer through a scale model and a VR experience.
The event will also feature the City of Kajaani, Kajaani University of Applied Sciences, Kainuu Vocational College, XTX Markets and other regional organizations.
“The data center sector is growing rapidly, and the region will continue to need a wide range of expertise in the future. This event offers an easy way to learn about organizations in the field, educational pathways, career opportunities and the practical impact data centers have on society. CSC’s data center in Kajaani is home to supercomputers and, in the future, a quantum computer, which support both scientific research and industrial product development,” says Eeva Sokka, Head of the Kajaani Data Center Ecosystem at CSC.
Kajaani is known as a hub for data centres and research infrastructure
The event is organised as part of Nordic Data Center Week (21-25 September 2026) that aims to raise awareness of the importance of data centers to society and highlight education and career opportunities in the sector. During the week, data center organizations across the Nordic countries organise events in cooperation with municipalities, educational institutions and other stakeholders.
In recent years, Kajaani has strengthened its position as a major hub for the data center industry and advanced research infrastructure. The region has developed into an internationally recognized environment that combines data center investments, education, research and skills development.
CSC provides advanced computing and data management services for research and education. Our Kajaani data center is home to the national Roihu supercomputer and the EuroHPC LUMI supercomputer. Next year, the infrastructure will expand with the EuroHPC LUMI-AI supercomputer and the LUMI-IQ quantum computer. Together, these resources combine high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and quantum computing, opening entirely new opportunities for academic research and industrial innovation.
Collaboration within the Kajaani data center ecosystem
The event is organised in cooperation with the organizations participating in the Kajaani Data Center Ecosystem (KDCE). Developed by the City of Kajaani, KDCE is a collaborative initiative that strengthens Kajaani’s position as a data center hub and promotes investments, expertise and cooperation in the sector. CSC contributes to the development of the regional data centre ecosystem and the organisation of related events through the ERDF co-funded Further Development of the Kajaani Data Centre Ecosystem (KDC2) project.
