AIKA2

Advancing the digital innovation hub
ecosystem in Kainuu

The AIKA 2—Advancing the Digital Innovation Hub ecosystem in Kainuu project builds upon previous project contributions in developing data and high-performance computing (HPC) expertise in Kainuu. The number of companies systematically utilizing data, AI and HPC is quite small in  Kainuu region, so the project aims to amplify digitalization and data utilization among Kainuu businesses by providing essential expertise and tools for business improvement.  The project supports SMEs in Kainuu and the broader business network in Northern and Eastern Finland in their transition to the digital era. The goal is not only to enhance existing expertise but also to attract new knowledge and skills to the region through the establishment of new businesses and experts.

The project consists of five work packages:

  • Continuing to develop the AIKA service portfolio to meet local business needs in data analytics, AI, cybersecurity, HPC, and other current digitalization technologies.
  • Improving technology adoption and competitiveness in local SMEs through a digitalization-focused “test before investment” service.
  • Strengthening regional development by identifying similar areas and innovation clusters and building international collaborations. Through benchmarking regional economic impact, the project aims to share best practices and increase international networking in the Kainuu region.
  • Implementing the AIKA Training Academy to offer regular and diverse training to the project’s target groups. The academy will focus on the possibilities, tools, and impacts of digitalization, supplemented with success stories and practical examples.
  • Disseminating the project’s results widely to the target groups through training sessions, events, the AIKA website, social media, implementers’ communication channels, traditional media, and newsletters.

The AIKA ecosystem is a unique innovation platform that supports business operations in Northern and Eastern Finland. The project supports Kainuu’s Smart Specialisation Strategy by promoting the adoption of AI technologies and data utilization in businesses. Leveraging the state-of-the-art EuroHPC LUMI supercomputer, the project aims to enhance business development and global competitiveness. It provides local companies with best practices and models for developing new products and services while also attracting investments and business operations to the region. Additionally, the project seeks to attract data analytics-focused companies to the Kainuu area.
