Q-Neko
Nippon-Europe Quantum Koraboreshon
Q-Neko, the Nippon-Europe Quantum Koraborēshon, is a CSC-led strategic partnership between Europe and Japan that strengthens international cooperation in quantum technologies and advanced computing. It brings together leading European and Japanese partners from research, industry, and computing infrastructure to turn high-performance and quantum computing (HPC+QC) into a practical tool for society’s most pressing challenges, and to bridge two of the world’s foremost quantum and HPC ecosystems.
At its heart is a high-impact library of quantum-enabled solutions for real scientific and industrial challenges: materials science, CO₂ reduction, telecommunications, computational fluid dynamics, and satellite image analysis. The project builds trusted benchmarks and pre-standardization, advances the HPC+AI+QC integration software stack, develops a technology roadmap for secure supply chains, and enables reciprocal access to world-class infrastructures so results can be tested and compared across platforms. In line with open science, Q-Neko releases its software and results openly to lower barriers to adoption and maximize reuse.
As project coordinator, CSC leads Q-Neko’s overall management and its work on EU–Japan expertise exchange, resource sharing, and communication.
Q-Neko puts the EU–Japan Digital Partnership into practice: it makes major infrastructure investments usable sooner, builds an evidence base for policy and procurement, reduces fragmentation through pre-standardization and roadmapping, and invests in people and trusted collaboration through researcher and engineer exchanges and joint symposia. This shows how hybrid HPC+AI+QC can meet societal needs and secure long-term EU–Japan cooperation.
