SPE
Strategy for Post Exascale
The Strategy for Post-Exascale (SPE) project addresses one of Europe’s most pressing technological challenges: preparing the convergence of High Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Quantum Computing and Simulation (QCS). It will identify key research and technological challenges and produce a strategic roadmap as well as policy papers to guide Europe’s research and innovation agenda beyond Exascale. The initiative fosters cross-community collaboration in Europe and beyond through strategic exchanges with similar worldwide initiatives. This collaboration contributes to the development of a competitive European HPC/Quantum/AI ecosystem.
A significant objective of SPE is connecting with relevant communities to ensure a unified European vision of post-Exascale intensive computing. SPE brings European and international actors together to share roadmaps and advances in exascale computing, AI and QCS through regular workshops and focused working groups.
CSC will lead the work on developing a cartography of the European HPC-AI-QCS ecosystem within the project. This work will map key actors, competencies, and existing roadmapping efforts in different domains and regions across Europe. CSC also contributes to European policy paper development and the overall vision for the post-exascale roadmap through expert input. In addition, CSC supports European participation in the International post‑Exascale (InPEx) activities. This includes analysing international post‑exascale strategies in HPC, AI, and QCS. This will help identify key global actors and initiatives and strengthen Europe’s global positioning and strategic alignment.
