FAIR Science Café – How to accomplish just data sharing and publication
What is FAIR Science Café?
FAIR Science Café is an informal and interactive online event where researchers get to talk about their work, research, and results in their own words. The discussion also highlights the data used, produced, and possibly openly available in the research.
Event aims:
- To provide researchers with a forum for presenting their research
- To increase understanding of research work and related data
- To promote open science and the implementation of FAIR principles
- To enable dialogue between researchers and the participants
The events are held in a relaxed, café-like atmosphere where discussion and questions are warmly welcomed.
The speaker at June’s FAIR Science Café is professor Frauke Ecke
- Professor, Department of Organismal and Evolutionary Biology
- Supervisor for doctoral programme in Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Sustainability of Society
- Helsinki One Health (HOH)
- Rodent and Disease Ecology
In this FAIR Science Café you will hear about:
How to accomplish just data sharing and publication?
Authorship in publications, data protection, and benefit-sharing can often lead to significant frustration and even conflict in research, particularly within large projects. In the Horizon Europe project BEPREP, Ecke´s research group has developed ethical principles for their research, along with principles and guidelines for publication, data and benefit sharing ethics, and protocols for authorship definition and conflict resolution. In the presentation, Ecke will address the value to develop concept notes and white papers as part of a transparent publication process in large consortia.
- How to achieve that those that generate data and stakeholders of various kinds are involved in the process of data protection and identifying authorship versus acknowledgements?
- How should data sharing agreements be developed?
- What happens to data that are part of a consortium after the project lifetime?
- The presentation will present success factors and pitfalls of data sharing and publication processes with experience from BEPREP and other big European consortia.
The event will be held in English and is suitable for anyone who is interested in data sharing and publication.
