EOSC CONNECT project strengthens the growth of the EOSC Federation
A new European project coordinated by CSC will prepare 14 candidate national nodes for enrolment in the EOSC Federation and strengthen the federation capabilities needed to support its future growth.
EOSC-CONNECT has a clear goal: to advance the growth of the EOSC Federation as a distributed system of systems. The project’s kick-off meeting was held in Helsinki from 29 September to 1 October and brought together over 70 participants from all around Europe. In addition to Finland, participating countries to the consortium include Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Serbia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

The project will prepare 14 candidate national nodes for enrolment in the EOSC Federation, while developing and testing the federating capabilities needed to make it more interoperable, resilient and open to future nodes, resources and disciplines.
“EOSC CONNECT will expand, consolidate and further evolve the EOSC Federation. By working closely with partners across 14 countries, we are helping candidate EOSC national nodes become sustainable cornerstones of both national research ecosystems and the EOSC Federation. Leveraging decades of expertise in operating national and European digital infrastructures and federated services, the project will develop APIs and software components for easier participation in the EOSC Federation and will advance the next generation of federating capabilities,” said Sara Garavelli, Development Manager at CSC and EOSC-CONNECT Coordinator.
The project will also help improve the accessibility and interoperability of services and data resources across national borders, enabling researchers to benefit from a more connected European research landscape.
“Collaborative research is a key driver of innovation, yet cross-border collaboration can still face significant policy, legal, and business challenges. EOSC-CONNECT will pilot real-world use cases to better understand these barriers and identify practical solutions to overcome them. By addressing the obstacles that can hinder seamless collaboration across countries, the project will contribute to making the EOSC Federation a trusted and effective enabler of research and innovation in Europe,” said Janne Kanner, Director of Data Management Services at CSC.
