EOSC Federation and EOSC Node Finland enter production
The EOSC Federation and EOSC Node Finland have officially entered production at the annual EOSC Symposium, 14–16 October 2026 in Florence, Italy. The Finnish node is amongst the first nodes to enter production, joining a notable step towards open science interoperability in Europe.
The first fourteen EOSC nodes reaching production comes eleven months after the EOSC Federation launched in November 2025, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the EOSC Association and EOSC Nodes, including EOSC Node Finland. The EOSC Federation is now growing rapidly, with 14 new nodes launching in 2026, bringing the total federated node network to 28.
Since the Federation launch, EOSC Node Finland has focused on realizing the federating capabilities of the EOSC Federation, including Access and Authorisation Infrastructure (AAI), Service Catalogues, and a Helpdesk. The national node has actively worked with Finnish stakeholders to onboard Finnish research resources, with some of these joining the Node Exchange – this makes Finnish research excellence available to researchers across Europe. This work is continuing, with EOSC Node Finland working to identify which European resources are the most valuable for Finnish researchers.
EOSC Node Finland presented on lessons learned from the first wave of EOSC Nodes, with Node Coordinator and Development Manager Jessica Parland-von Essen highlighting the value of national level engagement and collaboration.
“We want to create a user-centric catalogue that serves both researchers in Finland and researchers from the EOSC Federation. The key is to keep the researcher at the center of node development,” said Jessica Parland-von Essen.
Cross-node and national use cases are now being developed to showcase the added value of the EOSC Federation to European researchers and research. In Finland, the national node is exploring a scientific use case focusing on long-term environmental observation data from the SmartSMEAR stations, and a second one exploring easier transfer opportunities and access to stable LLM and multilingual AI datasets within the OpenEuroLLM ecosystem.
